CMS responded swiftly by outlining steps to provide health care services to ailing patients outside a traditional hospital setting. The Acute Hospital Care At Home Program (AHCAH) was created to provide eligible hospitals with the innovative and unprecedented regulatory flexibility to treat eligible patients in their homes, expanding the Hospital Without Walls effort launched in March.
To launch AHCAH, CMS partnered with the Ventera ESS Team to bring this idea to life. The team created a web portal to streamline the waiver request process and allow hospitals and healthcare systems to submit the necessary information to ensure they meet the program’s criteria to participate.
Working with the Ventera Security and DevOps teams, the group created the web portal enabling hospitals to easily and quickly apply for the program.
The teams worked seamlessly with other CMS contractors and the CMS staff to leverage existing functionality and tools and refine content and processes.
CMS has approved waivers for 56 health systems with experience providing acute hospital care at home. These health systems are eligible to begin immediately participating in the new program and supporting patients. Check out what the hospitals are saying about AHCAH.
